St. Patrick's Day

Here's a peek into our classroom on Friday as we celebrated St. Patrick's Day.  The students learned about St. Patrick, the missionary who brought Christianity to Ireland.  We had fun with Irish folklore: shamrocks, leprechauns and pots of gold at the end of the rainbow.
Big friends came in the morning to help make graphs of the marshmallow treats in Lucky Charms cereal. I'm not sure, but I think the marshmallow pots of gold had the greatest number. We'll have to consult the graphs because we ate the evidence.
We made leprechaun hats for fun, then followed the rainbow colored clues to discover the pot of edible gold at the end of the rainbow.  (Who would have guessed that the rainbow ends at the baseball field?)
And, of course, when something exciting happens, we've got to write about it!

Dr. Seuss Day

Here are some photos from Friday's dress up day.
"One fish, two fish, red fish, blue fish."

"Maybe Christmas, he thought, doesn't come from a store, Maybe Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more."
"I meant what I said, and I said what I meant. An elephant's faithful, one hundred percent."

"He should not be here, said the fish in the pot. He should not be here when your mother is not."

"Left foot, right foot, feet, feet, feet. Oh, how many feet we meet."

"It's fun to have fun, but you have to know how."

"Little Cindy Lou Who, who was no more than two."

Cindy Lou, the Grinch, and Max

The Birthday Boy!What a great day to celebrate  a birthday!

As each of the kindergarten classes came into my room for a 30 minute lesson, I read The Foot Book.. The students learned how to measure a picture of a foot using a nonstandard measuring unit (cubes) and using standard measurement (inches.) The students also learned that they have beautiful feet; the Bible says, "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!" Romans 10:15.  When we use our feet to carry the message of God's love, the Bible says we have beautiful feet. The children enjoyed decorating pictures of beautiful feet.

After a busy day of eating green eggs and ham, making oobleck, rhyming with Fox in Socks, measuring, and reading with our eyes shut, you might as well just put us in the zoo!
Theodor Geisel, aka Dr. Seuss, had a great imagination, and in our writing activity last week, the students were challenged to come up with imaginative, creative responses to complete the sentence "If Thing One and Thing Two came to my house".

Our young authors did such a good job with their writing that I couldn't choose just one or two writing samples to share. So I posted all of them! "Oh, the thinks you can think up, if only you try!"
