Happy Easter

Sometimes when it appears all our hopes have evaporated, God startles us with his lovingkindness. When weather forecasts displayed those dreaded dark clouds and lightning bolts, it seemed our outdoor Easter Party would be a wash-out. But the rain never came, and the sun even poked out between the clouds. The kids swam and jumped and played all afternoon.
This small example of God's goodness reminds me of another time when deep disappointment gave way to boundless joy. On that Good Friday, as Jesus' disciples witnessed his death on the cross, they lost hope. They didn't understand that Jesus would rise from the dead.  But God had a better plan; on Sunday morning God surprised them with his extravagant goodness. The situation wasn't hopeless after all. Jesus is alive!

Gumbo in the Courtyard

This week, our Early Childhood division studied Louisiana. Wednesday the students enjoyed gumbo in the courtyard. Our high school jazz band performed for the kids, and we finished by marching in a Second Line. We love our state.

Below are the ending verses from "St. Patrick's Breastplate," an old Irish hymn attributed to St. Patrick, the missionary who brought Christianity to Ireland.

Christ with me,
Christ before me,
Christ behind me,
Christ in me,
Christ beneath me,
Christ above me,
Christ on my right,
Christ on my left,
Christ when I lie down,
Christ when I sit down,
Christ when I arise,
Christ in the heart of every man who thinks of me,
Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me,
Christ in every eye that sees me,
Christ in every ear that hears me.
I arise today
Through a mighty strength, the invocation of the Trinity,
Through belief in the Threeness,
Through confession of the Oneness
of the Creator of creation.
