All Creatures Great and Small

In our Science lessons, we're studying mammals, and at Christmastime, certain mammals find themselves  in the spotlight. Reindeer, of course, capture our attention, thanks to Rudolph. So we took this opportunity to learn more about reindeer (also called caribou in North America). We learned about where they live, what they eat, and how God built their bodies to be perfectly suited to their environment.

And since the "A" in "STEAM" stands for "ART," we did a couple of art projects in our STEAM lab this week. We made reindeer puppets, and we created "stained glass" Nativity scenes, to remind us of the time when the Creator of everything came down to earth as a baby.

Camels also take center stage at Christmas because these humble animals carried the Wise Men across the desert as they followed the star to find the newborn King.

Bubbles the camel paid us a visit so we could get up close and personal with a real came.  Bubbles likes to eat vanilla wafers, and we had a stash on hand to feed her. Some of the students were afraid she would spit; however, Bubbles was quite well-mannered.

We spent the rest of the day learning facts about camels--where they live, what they eat, and how God made their bodies to exist in hot, desert climates.

Just for fun---to remind us of Bubbles--we expended our holiday energy by stomping on bubble wrap.

The animal kingdom is full of God's amazing, extraordinary, wild, and wacky creations!

All Things Bright and Beautiful

“All things bright and beautiful,
All creatures great and small,
All things wise and wonderful,
The Lord God made them all.

Each little flower that opens,
Each little bird that sings,
He made their glowing colors,
He made their tiny wings.

The purple headed mountain,
The river running by,
The sunset, and the morning,
That brightens up the sky.

The cold wind in the winter,
The pleasant summer sun,
The ripe fruit in the garden,
He made them every one.

He gave us eyes to see them,
And lips that we might tell,
How great is God Almighty,
Who has made all things well.”
