Bring Your Stuffed Animal to School Day

Since August, the class has been working together to achieve a goal: to reach the top of the "Compliment Chart."  Every time another teacher or adult gave the class a compliment for good behavior, the marks on the chart crept a little higher. It was an exercise in working together and a chance for the children to learn that each one is part of the team, and in order to achieve the goal, they each had to do their part. Finally, the class arrived at the top of the chart.  It was time to celebrate.

The children suggested several ways to celebrate, then the class took a vote. The majority voted to "Bring a Stuffed Animal to School." (This was also a good lesson in how to make the best of the situation when your choice doesn't win.)

The kids were really excited about this day.  Here are some photos from our celebration.  In spite of all the excitement, we managed to have Reading groups, literacy stations, and lessons on long a, cylinders, and Louisiana.

In the afternoon, we had a special treat, then at the end of the day, we relaxed with a movie.
