Letting Our Lights Shine

"You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds an praise your Father in heaven." Matthew 5:14-16

Our world is filled with darkness. Just watch the news and you'll find reasons to despair. But we Christians have the light of Christ in us. We have a responsibility to let that light shine by doing good. Beyond that, we have the responsibility to let the world know the source of that goodness...Christ in us. We live in a society where it's not politically correct to proclaim our faith, but if we keep silent, how will the world know that the praise belongs to God?

In chapel, the kids are learning simple truths: Letting your light shine means being kind to your friends and obeying your teacher. And every week they're reminded that the Bible is "absolutely, positively true." On this truth we stand firm as we learn what it means to be a light in the darkness.
