Part of a Community

"As it is, there are many parts, but one body." I Corinthians 12:20

In our classroom, we have a chart where we've kept track of all the compliments our class receives. Each time an adult tells our class, "Good job, Mrs. Kemp's class," Pluto's puppy feet travel a little bit further down the road, on his way to the top of the chart. We finally made it to the top, and we celebrated. The kids brought their favorite stuffed animal to class ( I had extras for those who forgot), and we took some time off from work to watch a movie.

Achieving this goal required team work; the class received compliments when every single classmate did the right thing. The "puppy feet" served  as a reminder that every individual's contribution is important and that every person's behavior affects the whole group.
"If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it."  I Corinthians 12:26
The students are also part of a larger community, the PBS community. They are Parkview Eagles, and Parkview's accomplishments are enjoyed and celebrated by the entire Parkview family, from the babies in daycare to the alumni and their families. For graduating seniors, the month of May marks the end of their experience as a PBS student. Early Childhood was ready with signs to send off the graduating seniors as they took one last walk down the halls of PBS.

"Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it." I Corinthians 12: 27
As Christians we are part of a community that is larger than our classroom, larger than our school. We're part of the body of Christ. As members of the Christ's body, the church, each individual is important. Each member's contribution is necessary, and each member's behavior affects the group. As we finish the school year, I hope the boys and girls will learn this lesson. We come together with different personalities, different abilities, and different talents. But we need each other. We respect one another. We value one another. We're part of a team.
